Marin Science Seminar Presentation: "Botulinum Toxin: Beauty and the Beast" (September 30, 2015) Download the flyer here.
Dr. Foehr will discuss the history, science and use of Botulinum Toxin. The world's most deadly toxin is simultaneously considered a weapon of mass destruction and is used widely for cosmetic purposes. We will learn about the molecular mechanism of this deadly toxin and how it is used in modern medicine to treat serious medical conditions (and make you look younger!).
Dr. Foehr is an expert in the areas of bioanalysis, immunogenicity risk assessment and drug development. He has directed labs at Bay Bioanalytical Laboratory and BioMarin Pharmaceuticals. Dr. Foehr was a Senior Scientist at the cancer diagnostic start-up, Diamics, and Senior Scientist at AGY Therapeutics, a proteomics company with a neuroscience focus. Currently he is Vice President at Pacific Biolabs. Erik Foehr received his Doctorate at the University of California, Irvine in the lab of Dr. Ralph Bradshaw. He was a Fellow at the J. David Gladstone Institutes department of Immunology and Virology. He has published in the areas of bioanalysis, immunology, cancer, and neuroscience.
Previous Presentation: “Bioanalyze This: Adventures in Biotech and Drug Development” Dr. Foehr will discuss the area of bioanalysis- what it is and how it's used. Examples from Dr. Foehr's published works will be shared, along with his experiences working in the fields of bioanalysis, immunogenicity risk assessment and drug development. He will explain techniques used to measure "stuff" at low levels in biological materials (blood, urine etc) with references to the popular television show, CSI.
