Gordon Lithgow, Ph.D.

Marin Science Seminar Presentation: "Do We Have to Grow Old? The New Science of Aging " (February 25, 2015) Get the flyer here.

Aging remains one of the most mysterious processes in science. It is also the leading cause of chronic diseases such as cancer and Alzheimer's disease. Gordon Lithgow studies the basic science of aging at the Buck Institute in Novato. He will talk about what we know about the mechanisms of aging and what scientists are doing to slow aging and eventually eradicate the chronic diseases of late life.

Dr. Lithgow received his PhD in Genetics from the University of Glasgow, Scotland.  He completed postdoctoral training at the Institute for Behavioral Genetics at the University of Colorado, Boulder.  Dr. Lithgow was a Senior Lecturer in Molecular Gerontology at the School of Biological Sciences at the University of Manchester in England before coming to the Buck Institute in 2001.  He is the Principal Investigator and Director of the Buck Institute’s Interdisciplinary Research Consortium on Geroscience.
