Diego Melgar, PhD

Marin Science Seminar Presentation: "The Really Big One: Earthquakes and Tsunamis in the Pacific Northwest" (November 18, 2015) Get the flyer here.

Dr. Melgar is an Assistant Researcher and part of the real-time seismology group at UC Berkeley Seismological Laboratory. Over the past year he has been working on real-time monitoring problems. His work has focused primarily on rapid earthquake parameter determination with GPS data as well as fast computation of tsunami propagation models for warning applications.

On the non-real time side of things he has been working on source analysis of large earthquakes including the M7.8 Nepal earthquake. By combining InSAR and very high rate GPS observations he studied the slip kinematics of the event and how they relate to strong ground motion generation and fault constitutive properties. Dr. Melgar holds a PhD. from the Scripps Institution of Oceanography. .
