Marin Science Seminar Presentation: "The Fountain of Youth: Is it a Myth?" January 31, 2018 (Download the Spring 2018 flyer here)

The field of aging is a relatively new area of study that is significant for all people as well as for several age related diseases such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases, cancer, stroke, osteoporosis, heart disease, diabetes, macular degeneration and glaucoma. The process of how people age is one of the great unknown mysteries that mankind has struggled to resolve. Dr. Chong He will discuss a novel approach to extend health span proposed by the scientists at the Buck Institute. She will also present her recent discovery on ibuprofen, a common over-the-counter drug used to relieve pain and fever, could hold the keys to a longer healthier life. The mechanism of ibuprofen slowing aging in different animal models and future direction of ibuprofen study will also be discussed.

Dr. Chong He is a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Buck Institute in Brian Kennedy lab. Before landing in California, She completed her PhD in Chemistry at Peking University. Her PhD study focused on multi-target drug design on inflammatory disease. She joined the Kennedy Lab in March, 2012. Dr. Chong He conducts research in the area of identify new pharmaceutical candidates that affect lifespan/healthspan extension in yeast and worms, as well as determining the potential targets and the mechanism of lifespan regulation using genome-wide analysis and enzymatic method.
